El Valle July 28th Report
GOLF THE COSTAS in Association With The COSTA TV CHOICE
OPEN GOLF COMPETITION AT EL VALLE GOLF RESORT
Golf The Costas in association with the Costa TV Choice hosted its second open golf competition at El Valle Golf Resort last Wednesday. Unlike the previous competition at Hacienda Del Alamo in June the weather was a typical July day in Murcia, very, very hot.
It was an early start to the day with the competition being an Individual Stableford with a shotgun start at 09.00 am, the field of 24 players including 4 ladies was a little disappointing but probably to be expected on a mid summers day.
The course was in the best condition that I have ever seen it other than the bunkers which are suffering from the amount of water that they are putting onto the course, they were very compact and wet in places. The fairways were lush and the rough very punishing now that they have let it grow. The greens were fast and true making it a challenge to two putt and make a par if you were good enough to hit the green in regulation. I watched a 4 ball on the tee on the 4th par 4 hole and they had 8 tee shots between them and came off with one point between them and that is one of the easy holes.
The par 3s were sponsored by “Mick the Grip” who runs a mobile golf grip replacement service and “Play it Again Golf Balls” who supply recycled and reconditioned golf balls across the Costas. The winners of these were
6th Hole – Colin Jackson
9th Hole – Gary Stolworthy
12th Hole – Lesley Pearce
15th Hole – Lesley Pearce
The longest drive for the men on the 7th par 5 hole was won by Richard Last and the longest drive for the Ladies on the Par 5 16th Hole was won by Tracy Ackers (the new driver was a good investment Tracy!!).
The scores reflected the difficulty of the course with only 7 players having above 30 points but there were some great performances starting with the Ladies in first place with an incredible 37 points was Lesley Pearce. In second place was Tracy Ackers with an excellent 36 points.
On to the men´s competition, the winner with 38 points was Mike Frankish who won a two hour putting clinic with the putting coach Glen Billington at his putting studio at Hacienda Del Alamo. In second place was Martin Blake with 34 points. We all had a great day and at only €35 to play it was great value for money which is what Golf The Costas is all about.
We would like to thank our sponsors, Costa TV Choice, Glen Billington, The Roldan Grill, Mick The Grip and Play It Again Golf Balls.
We will be in touch shortly with the date of the next competition so if we do not already have your email details please sign up to our newsletter on www.golfthecostas.com
