La Cañada Golf Club is located between Estepona and Algeciras on the Costa del Sol in Spain. The first nine holes were designed by Dave Thomas and the second nine by Robert Trent Jones Senior. This is a municipal course with a large local membership but guests are always welcome, it was originally built for the workers and green keepers of Valderrama which is the neighbouring course. |
The course is well presented with some tight fairways, the last 3 holes are probably the best on the course and the 18th signature hole is a gem. The ground immediately in front of the tee drops off into a huge abyss which is filled with an eye-catching selection of trees. The drive, on this 338-metres hole, has to carry about 180-metres before it arrives out onto the fairway; anything less will require a re-load and three off the tee, and so on! The buggy-path brings you right around the edge of the gorge which must be the final resting place of countless thousands of golf balls. The fairway slopes severely from right to left as it rolls down onto a plateau from where you can see the green surrounded by a necklace of mounds while over the back does not look in the slightest bit inviting.

Directions
From Marbella take the N-340, take the exit km 133 for Sotogrande & Castellar. it is the one just past Guadiaro. Then follow the sign for Guadiaro on the roundabout, after 200 metres, go left following Guadiaro again and another 200 metres further you will find La Cañada Golf Club on your left.
